He collaborates heavily with Dr. Peterson in all phases of analysis, including acquiring and managing data, summarizing data so that the claims process can be understood, estimating claims liability (often by employing epidemiological projection methods), simulating claims payments in forecasting situations, and participating in the development of reports, memos, and briefings.
Dr. Relles has served as an expert in claims procedures and liability estimation to 69 asbestos trusts and/or bankruptcy cases since 2010.
He has served as an expert in the Dow Corning Bankruptcy and for the Dow Corning Trust Settlement Facility (1995-2021). He has also served as an expert in the A.H. Robins Bankruptcy (1985-1987).
Prior to his work at LAS, Dr. Relles spent over 30 years at RAND, where his roles included Senior Statistician, Associate Corporate Research Manager, Resident Scholar for Statistics, and Associate Department Head for Economics and Statistics. During this tenure at RAND, his activities in these roles included recruiting, administering funding, running an in-house statistical consulting service, and mentoring. His research areas included Medicare Inpatient Rehabilitation, Software Development, Heath, Military Manpower, and Population Studies, among others. He began his career as a statistician at Bell Telephone Laboratories.
Outdoors, he loves walking on the Santa Monica beach and mountains. Indoors, he enjoys playing around in Linux to expand his bag of tricks.
